I. Love. Food…. I love to cook, I love to watch food shows (as long as it isn’t Paula Deen), I love to go out to eat. I am a fan of consumable goods.
About three years ago my skin broke out.. I looked like a “Before” ProActiv picture. It made me very self-conscious and miserable. I remember going to lunch at Bar Pitti with GI Joe and rather than enjoying our meal all I could think of was “my skin looks gross. I wish I could crawl under a rock and die.”
So I started seeing my amazing acupuncturist. I needed some sort of answer for my skin issues and since I thought it was food related (my face would start itching after I ate) I figured acupuncture could help me. And it did but there is no free lunch. In order to not look like a horomonal teenager I’d have to give something up.
After my first visit she told me if I wanted my blemish-free skin back I needed to go Gluten Free. What the what? No more pasta? No more bread baskets? I don’t think so….
But I guess I loved my skin more than I did my gluten filled foods cause I did do it for a spell and that’s where my GFJ’s (gluten free journals) started. I needed motivation to eat gluten free and felt that keeping a journal would help be steer clear of my favorite wheat filled foods…
Once my skin cleared up I continued posting my meals out of habit and with the idea that I’d go back to being gluten free again. I really haven’t. When I cook at home and bring lunch to work I try to be as gluten free as possible but when I’m out, that bread basket is my frenemy….
So, for all of you that are new to zee blog and wondering why the eff I journal what I eat, this is why….

I have plagued with acne since I was 13. I have been on topical and oral medication. I know exactly how bad it feels to be self-conscious about your face. I have rearranged my life around acne outbursts. My acupuncturist told me that she wanted to try to treat my acne from the inside out and asked me to go vegan. I am Texan. I am used to having side dishes of meat with my meat. We compromised and I went vegetarian. I miss meat but my face is clear. I applaud you for caring for your skin more than gluten. I really enjoy your blog! Thank you! I also enjoyed your Chicago shout-out with the Bong roll on Southport!
