Now I should tell you, I am a full on planner. Every Friday morning I look at my schedule for the following week and shop Trader Joe’s accordingly. I stock up on my Fage and if I don’t have too many dinners planned, food. I used to just think about what I wanted each day and buy it on my way home but found this route not only waste’s money it’s way too time consuming.
Last Friday, when I went to Trader Joe’s, I told myself, “you are going to make an actual dinner next week and not one-step it”… So I picked up some potatoes, chicken, heavy cream, garlic, whole-grain mustard, chicken broth and broccoli and decided that was going to be one dinner plus a lunch or two.
Thighs are my favorite part of the chicken. They must be fatty as I love them so. They consistently maintain their juiciness and for some odd reason are cheaper than the rest of the bird. So a package of organic chicken thighs went into my cart. Their sell by date was Monday so I figured I was good to go.
NOT SO MUCH!! Yesterday, after I had put my scalloped potatoes in the oven I went to prepare the chicken. When I opened the plastic the most foul smelling fart came at me. Yes, my chicken thighs smelled like a nasty fart. For a split second I thought, “this must be a mistake” so I took a whiff of another piece and the same rancid odor attacked my olfactory senses. MOTHER CHUCKER.
Now a normal person would automatically toss the chicken. I am not normal. For a split second I thought, maybe if I cook this crap it will kill whatever is making this smell.. If not, I’ll get food poisoning and that’s always a great diet…. seriously, so many issues to work through.
I did chuck the chicken and went out and picked up some chicken breast (it’s all they had at the corner store). Chicken breast is always tough gong but I added extra whole-grain mustard in my sauce to flavor it up… The end result was a dinner Lala and I both enjoyed.

This made me chuckle. Btw, if you buy meat (esp chicken) from the butcher at whole foods, cook it within 24 hours. That shiz goes bad immediately. I learned this lesson about $100 times before I asked the butcher.
